Trout picnic - Szentendre island (1 day) 16 july 2011.
It’s calm villages with colourful houses surrounded by river woods put the visitor into a special mood. Cycle along the flat narrow island where horses are pasturing afield on flowering meadows. Cool your legs in the Danube right on the northest tip of the island where not only the scenic panorama of the Danube Bend makes you feel freedom but also the twittering of rare birds in neighboring forests of the Danube-Ipoly National Park. Being straddled by the hills of Börzsöny and the mountains of Pilis the view from here is dramatic. You would think that this is the best that can happen to you on a Saturday afternoon, but you haven’t tried yet the fresh trout raised on spot in Dunabogdány. Who would think that in a wayside canteen you can eat trout that is said to be the best in Hungary? Attention! You can have only trout here. Trout fried, smoked, souped. Tour fee: 5.000 HUF Tour fee includes: 2 guides to ensure everyone can cycle in his/her own space. No service car on one day tours. Half way you can take the ferry to the main land and catch a train back to Budapest if you feel tired. Trout picnic: For approximately 2.500 HUF you can have a square meal of a large piece of trout with big portion of garnish and fresh salad and also a large home made lemonade. Detailed program Stages: Budapest - Dunakeszi - Horány - Kisoroszi - Dunabogdány – Szentendre – Budapest Meet at 8:15 am in front of Nyugati-pályaudvar (Western Railway station). Our train leaves at 8:41 am. Please buy your ticket for yourself in advance at the railway station to Dunakeszi Gyártelep Station. From Dunakeszi we gonna cycle together to the shore of the Danube and take the ferry to Horány on Szentendre Island. A gentle ride on silent roads leads us to Kisoroszi, the northern tip of the island. We will have several refreshing stops, if we feel like we can swim in a little lake and we can also cool ourselves in the Danube on the tip of the island. We walk around Kisoroszi and visit the House of Ancient Times. A short ferry trip takes us to the mainland and with a short ride we arrive to our picnic place to taste Feri’s trout. From Dunabogdány we cycle towards Szentendre. Although there’s a cycling path we have to take a short distance on the road, but most of our way will go through cool river forest along the shore of the Danube. Our tour ends in the historical town of Szentendre, where we stop for an ice cream at the world famous Szamos confectionery and say goodbye to the romantic milieu of the Danube Bend region. We take the HÉV to get back to Budapest around 6:00 pm
Essential information Weather: If you want ot join the tour on your own bike, we kindly ask you to prepare your bike for the trip! If it’s possible, please visit your local bike shop a week before the tour, so the mechanics have time to adjust and check whatever needs to be done.
